Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced that it would release a new 50 leva banknote into circulation on November 1, 2019. It has been only 12 months since the new 100 leva note was issued in December 2018.
The note has included a feature to help the visually challenged people in the form of four thick and seven thin lines at an angle along the short sides of the banknote.
The new note has new security features with optical effects like a hologram stripe with alternating images of a bird and Icarus. A variable ink has been used which changes from gold to green from different angles when tilted.
The security thread will also have the same variable ink and the watermark of Pencho Slaveykov’s portrait will be in a higher resolution.
