The National Bank of Ukraine to Introduce New 20 Hryvnia Banknote of 2018 design on 25 September 2018

The redesigned 20 hryvnia banknote of 2018 design is legal tender within Ukraine and shall be accepted at its face value by all individuals and legal entities without any limitation all over the territory of Ukraine.

Banknotes of 2003 and 2018 designs will be concurrently in circulation.

After the introduction of the new 20 hryvnia banknote, the public will not need to exchange banknotes of older designs for the new one.

The NBU will replace the worn out and damaged 20 hryvnia banknotes of 2003 design with the new banknotes.

The 20 hryvnia banknote of 2018 design mimics the design of 100 and 500 hryvnia banknotes:

The size of the banknote – (69х130) mm. The banknote’s dominant color is green.

 

Description of the banknote’s front side

There is Ivan Franko’s portrait, the inscription “ІВАН ФРАНКО” (Ivan Franko) and a facsimile passage from his work in the center on the front of the note. Ukraine’s small coat of arms and the inscription “УКРАЇНА” (Ukraine) are depicted in the top part of the banknote to the right of the portrait; the inscription “НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ” (the National Bank of Ukraine) is placed in the top part of the watermark area with the signature of the NBU Governor and the word “ГОЛОВА” (Governor) beneath it. The said design elements are done in deep brown.

The stylized image of a flower in optically variable ink (OVI) is located to the right of Ivan Franko’s portrait. The flower image changes color from magenta to olive green from different visual angles.

Part of the see-through element – a fragment of the numerical indication “20” of the denomination is depicted in lilac color to the left of the NBU Governor’s signature.

A special triangular element in deep olive green for visually impaired people is in the lower corner near the left side of the banknote.

The numerical indication “20” of the denomination is printed in deep green and deep brown inks in the lower left corner of the banknote (the numbers’ background is filled with figures “20” and stylized pictures of Kyiv Rus hryvnia).

The inscription “ДВАДЦЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ” (twenty hryvnias) in deep brown and the negative picture of the numerical indication “20” of the denomination are depicted along the right vertical edge of the banknote.

Other elements in multicolor print complete the banknote’s front side design.

Description of the banknote’s reverse side

The depiction of the Lviv Opera House with the inscription “ДВАДЦЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ” (twenty hryvnias) above it is in the center of the banknote’s reverse side.  The color of the image changes from deep green to deep brown.

There is a green image of the sculpture that symbolizes Glory depicted in the background to the right of the central element.

The inscription “20 ГРИВЕНЬ 20” (20 hryvnias 20) is depicted in green along the left vertical edge of the banknote.

Part of the see-through element – a fragment of the numerical indication “20” of the denomination is depicted in cyan color in the right top corner.

The depiction in green of the numerical indication “20” of the denomination is in the right lower corner, the year of the design approval “2018” is indicated to the left.

The numerical indication “20” of the denomination is depicted in thin negative line in the center of the lower ornament.

The serial number is printed twice: horizontally in red ink in the lower part of the banknote and vertically with the changing height of the figures in black ink along the right edge of the banknote.

Each serial number consists of a two-letter series and a seven-digit number.

Other elements in multicolor print complete the banknote’s reverse side design.
