Singapore’s Bicentennial Commemorated in the new $20 note

The President of Singapore, Mr. Halimah Yacob, launched S$20 note to commemorate Singapore’s bicentennial. The note illustrates Singapore’s journey from its birth to nationhood. It pays tribute to the forefathers who played a significant role in building Singapore.

The note issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has a portrait of Mr. Yusof Ishak (Singapore’s first president), the Supreme Court and City Hall, now called the National Gallery Singapore. The back of the note depicts eight pioneers who laid the foundation in areas like education, culture, sports, defense and community service.

There will be 5,000 limited edition numismatic sets for sale. Each set has an uncut sheet of three S$20 commemorative notes. Pre-orders can be placed with the Singapore Mint from Wednesday to Jun 13. As part of the bicentennial celebrations, the MAS Gallery is also exhibiting for the very first time a rare collection of currencies notes and coins issued over the past 200 years.
