Liberian Senate Banking Committee Recommends new Banknotes

The Liberian Senate Committee of Banking and Currency has recommended that the Plenary of the Senate allow the government to print new Liberian Dollar banknotes, starting with the introduction of the new L$ 1,000 denomination.

The Senate committee stated that as the Central Bank of Liberia is unable to estimate the number of Liberian Dollars is present in circulation, it would be better to have a new banknote with a different security feature.

The Senate feels that the inflation could be tackled by replacing the existing banknotes with new notes with higher security.
