Danske and Bank of Ireland to introduce ‘plastic notes’

By February 2019 the new Danske Bank and Bank of Ireland currency will enter circulation. Four Bank’s of Northern Ireland can print their own money. The Ulster Bank has also moved  to cash made from plastic in 2017. The northern bank introduced the first £5 plastic notes in Northern Ireland (1999). About £2.5 billion Northern Ireland banknotes are said to be in circulation. Danske Bank’s new £10 polymer note has the portrait of inventor John Dunlop. With the image of Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, the Bank of Ireland will produce new polymer notes of £5 and £10. Both the Bank’s will introduce polymer £20 notes in 2020 or 2021.
