Central Bank of Kenya: Exchange old 1000 KES for new ones until October

During the launch of the New Generation banknotes by the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Dr. Patrick Njoroge noted the grave concern that the older one thousand shilling series were used for illicit financial transactions in Kenya and elsewhere. Counterfeits have also been on the rise.

CBK has addressed all the concerns by withdrawing the entire older one thousand shilling series. Kenyans are requested to exchange the old notes with the new by October 1, 2019. A Gazette Notice with all the details has been published on May 31, 2019. All the older 1K banknotes cease to have legal tender status.
