Central bank of Armenia issues commemorative coins.

The Central Bank of Armenia has issued gold commemorative coins dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of the outstanding Armenian writer, poet and public figure Hovhannes Tumanyan.

It said 500 gold commemorative coins with the nominal value of 10,000 AMD have been issued. The obverse of the coin has an image of a fragment from Tumanyan’s poem “Akhtamar”. The reverse depicts a portrait of the writer and his signature. On the left are the dates of his birth and death: “1869” and “1923”.

The coins were designed by Vardan Vardanyan and were minted by the Lithuanian Mint. The preparations for the anniversary were started two years ago.
