Central Bank announces operation to disinfect banknotes and coins

Banknotes and coins circulating in the Dominican Republic will be disinfected before handing them over to banks, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), Héctor Valdez Albizu, Governor of the Central Bank.

He said that for this the Central Bank acquired ultraviolet equipment. “That is, the new pallets are going to be delivered to the fully disinfected banks,” he explained.

He announced that “A 15-day isolation protocol is being implemented for banknotes and coins received from financial entities, prior to their circulation. In other words, all the old banknotes that arrive will be totally isolated ”.
