The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has officially put into circulation two new banknotes – 1,000 Riel (some US$0.25) and 5,000 Riel (about US$1.25).

The issuance of these new banknotes was announced in separate Prakas (official announcements) of NBC signed by H.E. Chea Chanto, Governor of NBC, on Oct. 25, 2017.

The new banknote of 1,000 Riel is 142mm long and 68mm wide with three dominant colours – light blue, blue and dark yellow, while that of 5,000 Riel has the same size, but with only two dominant colours – purple and brown.

These two new banknotes were put into official use from the date of Prakas issuance along with other existing official banknotes.
