Cambodia Puts New 20,000 Riel Banknote Into Circulation

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has officially put into circulation a new 20,000 Riel (about US$5) banknote along with other existing banknotes.

The issuance of this new banknote was announced in a sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen on May 16, 2018 to mark the 65th Birthday of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.

This new banknote is 155-mm-long and 72-mm-wide with three dominant colours – light pink, dark pink, and brown. It depicts the portrait of His Majesty the King on the front and the picture of Banteay Srei Temple in Siem Reap province on the back.

According to the NBC, the 20,000 Riel Banknote has been issued only two times, in 1995 and 2008.
