Pablo Ramos, Acting President of the Banco Central de Bolivia, confirmed yesterday to La Razón that the banknotes of the “New Family of Banknotes” (Nueva Familia de Billetes) will start circulation in April 2018.
A new stage in the monetary history of the country will begin in April 2018, when the circulation of the New Family of Ticket (NFB) begins which includes the faces of indigenous heroes and independence heroes, as well as the flora and fauna of the country.
The information was confirmed to La Razón by the interim president of the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB), Pablo Ramos, who explained that the NFB will circulate in parallel with the old banknotes until the latter are gradually withdrawn from the market.
“A year will come the New Family of Tickets, the first of the Plurinational State that will have a great symbolism because it starts a new stage in the economy and monetary history of the country. We have already been working for a year, we hope that the first banknotes will start circulating in April, “said Ramos.
On March 8, 2016, the BCB launched an international public tender for the printing of the NFB of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 bolivianos. Among the objectives is to fight against counterfeiting -including state-of-the-art security elements, easy to identify and difficult to imitate by counterfeiters-, and will have tactile elements (high-relief printing) that will facilitate their identification for the blind.
The current validity of the family of banknotes, which is approximately 30 years -the last issuance was in 1987-, exceeds “widely” the duration recommended by other central banks that is 10 to 20 years, according to a BCB press release of 2016.
Whether on the front or back, the new tickets will include characters and images representative of the country with the thematic axis of the libertarian deed (Martin Uchu, Jose Manuel Baca, Juana Azurduy de Padilla and others), the flora and fauna in danger of extinction (Toborochi tree, Paraba Azul, Lucachi monkey and more), ruins and places of national historical heritage (Rainbow Falls, Isla del Pescado and others).
